The Echo Dot's design is great and unobtrusive, but I wondered how adding a physical personality would enhance interaction. I designed a concept that is easily added to a dot, no configuration needed. 3D printed and really simple interface tech. The interface is so simple that is does not use any actual connection to the Echo Dot. I take advantage of the existing interface of light (ring), and sound. 2 versions were designed and made. One has a simple face that lights up when the Echo Dot starts talking. The second one introduces a lip synced mouth display.
Both units feature 8x8 LED matrix diaplys to animate eyes and mouth movements. Hardware is based on the Arduino platform. The encolsures were designed in 3DS MAX and 3D printed.
