Final robot, with alloy arm construction and foamex grippers.
Alternative design & construction
Long before we had 3D printers so widely available as today, things had to be done a little differently - more old school! There was no luxury of designing something in 3D CAD, then easily printing it out, you had to think about what materials would suit - and design around those.

Foamex board construction.

Modified 360 degree servos and R/C plane wheels.

Batteries to counter balance.

PIC based strip board circuit.
Laser cut versions

A MDF laser cut 6 Degree of freedom serially controlled robot arm.
Once I had my laser cutter installed, things went from souring parts to use - to making bespoke parts. My first robot using this approach is this robot arm. Cut from MDF as it is more compliant & lighter than acrylic.

Servo drive gripper mechanism.

Top view & custom controller PCB.

Folded compact storage mode.

Fully extended.
