Smartsafe
Smartphone operated desktop novelty safe.

The Smartsafe was an experiment to see how to further integrate the power of smartphones with physical objects.
It was also an exercise to see how the physical object could have a zero configuration setup. There is no need to pair Bluetooth, or enter any wifi credentials - as the safe uses none of these. How it works is pure simplicity. The phone does all the work, storing pin codes, checking they match user input - if a correct code is entered the phone flashes a binary code to the safe. If this binary flash matches the one previously set and stored in the safe - it will unlock!
This product won the "Best in App Toys" at the London Toy Fair 2012.

As the licensor of this concept has many current licenses, the concept was translated into 2 other products. A BBC Dr. Who TARDIS, and Disney's STARWARS R2D2. I created prototypes for both these versions, along with the un licensed version. The TARDIS is lasercut painted MDF, R2D2 was fashioned from an existing bubble bath container! and the unlicensed safe was again lasercut painted MDF.

Working prototypes constructed out of plastic and MDF.
